I agree that in person communication is hard to replicate when you’re remote, but after having worked with a lot of overseas remote co-workers I think there are some ways around this. Video chat or even a simple phone call brings more closeness to a co-worker than Slack or email.

The key is that you have to build that habit of jumping on a call with them first and keep it going.
